Perception Of Black Art x Amalga Distillery

Black History Month, or National African American History Month, it is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. While living here in Juneau, Alaska, I have met and become friends with many people in this small community of 30,000; it is also a place where African Americans are the minority.

According to wikipedia, the racial makeup of the city/borough was 69.4% white (67.4% non-hispanic white), 11.8%, native american, 6.1% asian, and 0.9% african american. Thats less that 1%. After conversations with many of the community members here, I learned that many of them did not know black history month even existed! So, I decided to do this project to shine some light on African American history for the Juneau community and to raise awarness of what daily struggles African Americans living face in a perdominatly white community.
